News & Events
For the first time in many years, the weather did not cooperate this Halloween. The driving rain and snow caused us to cancel our annual party. But, keep your eyes peeled - as we'll throw a spring party with the ward winning magician - Noland's Magic - that we had booked.
We also had a Fall Cleanup day to sweep up the leaves, sand and other debris. Volunteers turned out to help get the park in shape for the winter. Thanks to all our volunteers.

Friends of Forest Hills Playground had the old sand cleared out, the sandbox repaired and an abundance of fresh new sand poured in. Enjoy but do your best to keep the sand in the sandbox so that everyone can enjoy it for as long as possible.

I'm happy to announce that Friends of Forest Hills Playground, Inc. just
received approval last night from the ANC 3F for a grant to cover the entire
cost of a new solar-powered trash/recycling compactor for the playground!
As many of you know, the trash situation at the playground has been horrible
with overflowing trash bins, bees and rodents scattering the trash around the
playground. This new compactor - which is in place at other DC parks, including
Stead Park and Guy Mason - has a closed lid to keep out bees and rodents and
will compact the trash, which will help us deal with the overflowing trash
problems. Plus, it will provide a bottle recycling receptacle - which we never
had at the playground before. Please see www.bigbellysolar.com for more
information about the compactor.
Hopefully, as soon as we have the grant money in hand, we'll be able to install
the new garbage compactor within 2-3 weeks.
It would be a great help if some parents on this listserv could send a quick
email note of thanks to the ANC 3F commissioners who voted to approve our grant.
It was a tight vote last night: four voted in favor (Jane Solomon, Susan Banta,
Mital Gandhi, Tom Whitley) and three opposed our grant (Karen Perry, Cathy Wiss,
Daniel L. Klibanoff.) The commissioners' emails are posted at:
www.anc3f.org/cms.html. (You might also want to remember their voting record on
election day next year!)
For more information or questions, please contact me.
Cheers,
Danielle Knight

Well, the weather cooperated, the Great Zucchini entertained, and many witches, Harry Potters, kitty cats and even one lobster in a pot had a wonderful time at the Forest Hills Playground Halloween party.
We are so glad that so many of you could join us in celebrating Halloween and enjoying the tasty treats of our bake sale. A special thanks to all those who donated baked goods and their time to setup, run and clean up after the party.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween!

Mark your calendars! The Forest Hills Playground is having its annual Halloween Party on Saturday, October 31 from 10:30 AM-12 Noon. Bring all your little ones in costume to enjoy a performance by the Great Zucchini – a fabulous magician!
We will have our fun costume parade, candy guessing game, crafts tables and baked goods fundraiser. Help us clear out Danielle’s garage and buy a t-shirt!
- We need help for set-up (9 AM – when the tables and chairs get delivered and balloons need to be filled) and clean up (12 noon). (Can I add that 2 members of our planning committee are pregnant and your board needs some help?)
- We need 2-3 people to take turns helping me sell baked goods.
- We need 4-6 people (2-3 people each in 2 shifts) to help with the crafts – they will be really easy, mostly just monitoring the area, replenishing supplies and helping people get started.
- We need 2-4 people (again in shifts) to help with balloons for take home. (It’s a chance to be popular :)
- Finally, we need many bakers – cookies, cupcakes, brownies, your favorite banana bread or anything that goes well with coffee.
Please consider lending a hand! You can reply to the listserve or e-mail me, Eileen, at Ekane98@… to let us know if you can help that day or if you plan to bring something for the sale.
